awe-some

I am not a Christian

Nor a Jew nor a Buddhist

Organized religions rubs me

The wrong way

But I have an affection for

Church courtyards

And cemeteries and meditating

In cemeteries

And praying and chanting

Rama Rama Ramahhhh

I am in hot pursuit

Of the river beneath the river.

And as I sat and listened

To the long-haired

Blue eyed hippy man

bash Jesus,

Whom he looked just alike,

And quote him to point out

Christian hypocrisy and

Call all organized religion

A box,

or a limitation on self growth

I realized this hippy dippy,

Pseudo Intellectual

is just as self righteous

And condemning as the bible beaters

And the suicide bombers

And the thou shalt nots

And all the lines they draw.

He is stuck in the very box he built-

Come on, dude.

Give me a more original argument.

You're not profound

for pointing out

The ills of organized religion

My lips tightened and my mind decided

I was done debating with someone

Who does not recognize the light in the other.

So how is your self growth going? How are you pursuing

A fulfilled life?

Condemn it all you want-

But then prove what is right.

What does spirituality look like?

I told him about my grandma.

She is very Christian

Married to a preacher,

Traveler of jerusalem and bethlehem

Lover of jesus and her holy land

Her religion is not about

Doctrine or dogma or moral teachings

Or any of the other technical, hollow words

He pronounced with Precise T’s and calculation.

No.

I told him my grandma says awesome

All the time.

But not in the way we say

“Oh shit, thats awesome”.

But in the way to show how life,

An experience, a place was truly and completely

Awe provoking.

To describe how she falls to her knees in awe

Of this incredible miracle of life, daily.

That is love.

That is religion.

It is completely different word when she says awesome.
